Tong Its (1996)
Two popular figures in the local music scene pop singer Janno Gibbs and master rapper Francis Magalona teamed up in this comedy about two cops who enjoyed playing a game Tong-its a popular type of card game. Assigned to investigate a minor traffic accident they stumbled on a bigtime crime syndicate when the victim Gracia turned out to be a key witness because her father was a police officer who was murdered before he could solve the case.
Ikaw Lamang (1999)
On the outside, they are as opposite as north and south. Ella (Kim) is a responsible young woman working very hard to fend for her family; Caloy (Dino) is a happy-go-lucky guy who never had any problems with money. But love knows no boundary. They meet and fall in love. With Ella in his life, Caloy finds direction. But while Caloy is enjoying his new life, Ella finds it hard to combine relationship and responsibility. A charming tale of the ups and downs of growing up and the joys an d pains of young love..
Oh My Ghost (2006)
A horror-comedy story, Oh my Ghost is about Trixie (Rufa Mae Quinto), a beautiful and sexy ad agency executive who focuses on her career and less of her love life. Even her best friend and partner in the agency, Alvin (Marvin Agustin), tries to make moves on her but just doesn't work. Meanwhile, three young egotistic guys - Dennis (Paolo Contis), Jeff (Carlos Agassi) and Buboy (Uma Khouny), meet Trixie in the gym who get so attracted and madly in love with her. Because of their arrogance and conceitedness, Trixie turns each one down that makes the three angry at her. To get even with her, they attempt to rape her that lead to a fatal accident. So sudden and untimely, Trixie's ghost cannot accept it and decides to take revenge. Horror-comic situations follow as she haunts the three to obtain justice.
Maging Sino Ka Man (1991)
Famous singer, Monique (Sharon Cuenta) escapes her home after her mother is in disbelief that her stepfather tried to assault her. She goes into hiding by altering her looks and assumes the name, Digna. She goes living in a shelter for women and works various odd jobs. With her past coming back to haunt her again, Monique's fate is altered with a chance encounter with Carding (Robin Padilla), a small, petty thief who looks after six orphaned children.
Videoke King (2002)
Overseas worker Ning Ning makes two separate favors to her fiancé King and her cousin Lally. Despite their low tolerance for each others' idiosyncrasies, they grudgingly carry out Ning Ning's wishes. But somewhere in the course of the homebuilding project, King and Lally develop feelings for each other. What they do not know is that Ning Ning actually has plans that they cannot deter.
Dahil Mahal na Mahal Kita (1998)
Mela has a reputation of a bad girl in the campus and is going steady with Mr. Bad Boy. She meets Mr. Perfect who does not care about her. Challenged, she pursued Mr. Perfect who eventually learned to love her despite her reputation.
Si Agimat Si Enteng Kabisote At Si Ako (2012)
Si Agimat, si Enteng Kabisote at si Ako is a 2012 fantasy action film starring Vic Sotto, Bong Revilla, Jr. and Judy Ann Santos. The film is a crossover of Agimat and Enteng Kabisote film franchise. It is a joint production by five movie outfits, Octoarts Films, M-Zet Productions, Imus Productions, APT Entertainment and GMA Films. It is one of the 8 official entries for 2012 Metro Manila Film Festival. It was shown in December 25, 2012.
Lastikman (2003)
Mars Ravelo's elastic comics superhero stretches his limbs to the silver screen. This timely tale with environmental understones unravels when a meteor strikes a rubber tree, giving the young Hilario (Oyo Boy Sotto) some special powers of elasticity that renders him, among others, immune to bullets. Hilario grows up to be Professor Larry (Vic Sotto), a physics teacher. When fate and duty calls, he transforms as Lastikan who protects people from injustice and oppression. Things become perplexing when Lastikamn was involved with the clash of his two students. His nerdy student Jepoy (Jeffrey Quizon) who used to idolize him turn to a villain called Evil Stryker. To make matters worse, news spread that Lastikaman beats up Jepoy and kills Ryan (Ryan Eigenman). This disheartens Lastikman. He now contemplates if he'll remain to be a superhero or just an ordinary & simple man
Mr. Suave (2003)
Rico Suave (Vhong Navarro) is the ultimate ladies' man. In the bayside market where he works, he is constantly grilled by his four quirky friends (collectively known as the F-Poor) for "Suave" tips. Soon they find out that Rico has a problem: when he gets intimate with a girl, his entire body freezes. Rico is miserable. In an effort to help their friend, the F-Poor enlist the services of Venus Marte (Angelica Jones), a sexy con artist. Convinced that Rico is a potential goldmine to exploit, Venus agrees to take on the job. Sparks fly as Venus tries to snare Rico. But, when she finds herself genuinely falling for him, she is caught in a dilemma. Will there be a way out of this rut for Venus? Can Rico regain his old charm as Mr. Suave?
Ikaw lamang hanggang ngayon (2002)
While most of his male friends are slow to make a commitment, Ryan (Richard Gomez) is a hopeless romantic -- a man who dreams of settling down. Trouble is, he keeps meeting women who are more intriguing than the current lady in his life. Baler (2008)
In 1898, a band of Spanish soldiers heroically defended Baler (which was not yet the capital municipality of Aurora until 1951) against Filipino forces for 337 long and grueling days. The battle, now referred to as the Siege of Baler, is the setting of a forbidden love between a Mestizo soldier (Jericho Rosales) and a Filipina lass (Anne Curtis) who lived at the end of the 19th century.
Of All The Things (2012)
Bernadette "Berns" Pamintuan (Regine Velasquez) earns a living as a fixer, having mastered the art of sidling up to people in power.
Meanwhile, Emil Arellano (Aga Muhlach) is a notary public who has set up an office in the street, under an umbrella, which has earned him the alias "Umboy."
When Berns' need for a counsel brings them together, she discovers Umboy's insecurities from failing the bar exam while he learns about the pressures she faces not to settle for the ordinary.
Already falling for each other, Berns starts maneuvering things to help Umboy retake the bar exams as he battles his fears to reclaim his self-esteem.
Chopseuy (2007)
The story is about a Filipino-Chinese family whose members all had to deal with depression. After their parents died, Jimmy (Piolo Pascual) took care of his younger sisters: Anette, (Andrea del Rosario)a closet lesbian yearning to be with her girlfriend; Claire, (Dimples Romana) an abused and neglected wife; and Leslie (Krista Ranillo) a call center agent who denounces the Chinese tradition of having a Filipino boyfriend. Jimmy, however, got so depressed when his wife-to-be eloped with her Filipino boyfriend. This experience prompted him to isolate and confine himself inside his room for six months. His sisters even prepared a cake for him during his birthday but he never came out of his room.
Alapaap (1985)
This is a flick that is hunted down by the geeks for a few reasons. It's coming from a country not known for horror and it do has a few good moments. Still, it's an ultra rare flick to catch on VHS, it's only release. But it do is available on DVD-R. Don't expect to have a good copy because the original one do has a lot of scratches. But face it, being made in a country not well-known for flicks it is normal that it is in bad shape.
It was director Tata Esteban his 4th flick but it's for many his real first flick. I was surprised that the actors did speak English. Almost all of them involved are still in the scene but are more common in their natives then here. Sometimes they do pop up in a Hollywood production.
But back to Alapaap. I was surprised that a flick coming from the Philippines did had some nudity. On the other hand, due being boring sometimes and having real cheap effects like, stop/motion with a face of a dead girl coming back alive or playing backwards of a reel so that smoke vanishes from a house, it do has some nice parts. But indeed, it's only towards the end that the real horror comes in. Some will laugh it out aloud like the scene with the hair-dryer. But for others that scene do add towards the gore. I liked it to see someone's face being burned until the eyes do drop out. There's also a small part of bestiality to see.
Alapaap is only for the lovers of cheap supernatural horror, don't expect to see a gory slasher or have some suspense. It doesn't but I recommend it for the old-school buffs.
Warat (1999)
Rex and Rica are G.I. babies born to American fathers they never knew. Raised by a rich, gay adoptive father, Rex grew up feeling worthless and alone. Rica was brought up by an arrogant aunt who always makes her feel like she's a good for nothing bitch. One day, his foster father is killed, and Rex is accused of the crime. Rica, on the other hand, flees from her cruel aunt. Their paths cross as they both try to escape their predicaments. Crime and passion draw them to each other, and the thrill of it all drives them to yearn for more. But truth has its way of signifying itself: the day comes when they both learn that they have the same father...
Orapronobis (1989)
Lino Brocka's celebrated work about a highly-controversial subject (a military invasion on a faraway province after the takeover of President Corazon Aquino in 1986) is certainly worth of watch, which is basically why it made it to the Directors' Fortnight in Cannes '89. The script is well-written, which makes good performances (particularly Bembol Roco as the cult leader) and suspense in every scene. Until now, it hasn't received wide theatrical or video release. Just check out a copy if you're lucky enough to find one. I've seen it twice and I want to see it more. Excellently done. 9/10.
Silip (2007)
This film is about a young just married couple ho settle into his home in a remote area of the Phillipines. There is no electricity and no cell phone signal even. The wife, Tess (pretty good job by Diana Zuburi) has to deal with her husband being a traveling salesman. The husband, Rico (Polo Ravales) has to away for three days, leaving her with the elderly caretaker. Through this time, Tess begins to suspect Rico is not faithful. She meets Celia (Francine Prieto) and she comes to live with her, especially since Rico is gone longer than three days since there was a storm. When Rico returns, Tess suspects he and Celia are having an affair and plots revenge. The film isn't bad, it keeps your interest, but it moves slowly to the conclusion. There are a few decent twists, and I recommend it to anyone who likes these kinds of dramas, but I don't think its terribly special. Diana Zuburi has the potential to be a star, maybe even cross over beyond Phillipine cinema. It'll be interesting to see where her career takes her.
Patayin Sa Sindak Si Barbara (1995)
A woman must fight against the evil will of her selfish sister, even beyond death.
